Rev. Alan Thompson

“A city boy, born and bred in Belfast, I came to faith in Jesus Christ in my mid-teens. On leaving school for university, I felt an increasing sense of God calling me into ministry. After studying history at Aberdeen University in Scotland, I trained for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland at Union Theological College, Belfast.

I have served in congregations in North and South Down, County Londonderry, and since 2007 in County Tyrone, as minister of Dungannon Presbyterian Church. I would describe my ministry as evangelical, Bible-based, and Christ-focused, with a desire to teach God’s Word, making the Lord Jesus and the Christian faith, attractive and desirable to all ages.

I am married to Patricia, and we have one daughter, Victoria, who is a nurse in Dundee, Scotland. When I have time off my ministry responsibilities, I enjoy reading and walking, and have an ‘armchair interest’ in most sports, especially rugby and cricket.”

Ruling Elders as Members of Kirk Session

Duties of Elders: The duty of ruling elders as members of Kirk Session is to work together with the minister in the oversight and government of the congregation, for the upbuilding of God’s people in spiritual fruitfulness and holy concord, and for the extension of Christ’s kingdom among all people.
